The Power of Thought

In previous posts, I’ve discussed how powerful the mind is, including the impact of positive and negative thinking. Both ways of thinking have the ability to construct reality in our life. Positive thinking creates a positive reality, while negative thinking creates a negative reality. These ways of thinking are continuously fighting over a significant position in the mind. The one that succeeds will be the action taken by the individual. Positive thinkers deal with life’s challenges confidently and are more likely to succeed than negative thinkers since they look at everything unconstructively.

Without a doubt, most people would prefer to possess the positive power of thinking so that we may create a certain and stable destiny. Nobody wants a life of bitterness. But whether we like it or not, our minds keep generating all sorts of thoughts, even those that may cause our failure in the end. We can never truly cease or avoid these unhealthy thoughts. But all is not lost! We can train our minds to focus on good things rather than the bad,the happy moments rather than the sad, on what we want rather than what we don’t.

The mind can and should be trained to focus on the brighter things in life, no matter how little or uninteresting they are, so that negative thoughts shall not succeed in creating undesirable future for us. It is never too late for change! My upcoming posts will focus on ways to train the mind on positive thinking.

Negative Thinking: The Glass is Half-EMPTY

“Someone drank my water! Some of my water spilled! There isn’t enough water in the pitcher to fill my glass. Whatever the reason, my darn glass is half empty! It may not be enough for me to fully quench my thirst. Darn that person who drank my water!” This is from the mind of someone under the influence of negative thinking.

Notice how many negative ways the mind can bend and twist this scenario, if given the chance. This person is full of opinions that something bad has happened to the water and even goes as far as to wish more bad on the person who drank some of the water. What’s worse is, these claims are not even substantiated! There is no proof that anyone drank the water and yet in this negative state we come to already believe it to be true.

Negative thinking is the exact opposite of positive thinking. Negative thinking does not necessarily always see things as bad, but it does not see the good in life. It is generally thinking of things in terms of lack, opposition, and “what-if” scenarios. Everything that has happened is due to some undesirable cause. These thoughts are usually generated in a mind full of worries, fears, and discomforts.

Positive Thinking: The Glass is Half-FULL

“Someone poured me a sparkling glass of cold water. How refreshing! It’s the perfect amount of water to wet my whistle and quench my thirst. It may not be full to the top, but the absence of half of the volume of water doesn’t bother me. After all, the glass is still half-full. ” Although that glass may appear half-empty to some, we chose to see if in a positive light. This choice creates a positive perspective. That is the power of positive thinking.

Positive thinking is a way of looking at things in a positive light. Seeing the beauty and the good in everything, everyone, and every situation. There are no worries, problems, or fears. Although there may be challenges, a focus is placed on what good can come out of any situation, what lessons can be learned to better you as a person, and what you already have to be grateful for.

The power of positive thinking is a tool that can help you build the life that you want. Because the mind is working on the information you send it, positive thinking leads to a positive reality. Positive thinking can make us beautiful and smart, help land that dream job, or even find our true love. But we have to use it properly and we have to continue working on it regularly. Through practice and dedication, positive thinking can become a habit and, in time, it will allow you to create the life you desire.
