Building self esteem is a gradual process. You need to do it in tiny bits and pieces over a period of time and you will see impressible results in the long run. There is no quick pill to better self image. You need to recondition the existing picture you have of yourself and replace it with a brighter and happy self. It is as simple as that. Here are a few tried and tested techniques to Build Your Self Esteem.
A: Visualize yourself brimming with confidence.
Practice, practice, practice and you will get good at it. Visualizing a desired outcome is one of the most effective ways of building self esteem. Almost all top athletes mentally see themselves succeeding much before their grand success in the out side world.
B. Identify and Build on your Existing Strength
If you have a hobby or a sport that you enjoy, relish the moments you spend in that sport. Sitting on your couch and watching TV is not a Hobby or a sport that can help you much. You need to do something physical. Relive that experience and savor that wonderful feeling. The more you notice how much you enjoy doing things you like, the better you will like yourself as person.
Like many self confidence concepts, building self esteem is full of mumbo jumbo that has little practical value. Telling someone to have a firm hand shake, look people in the eye, or repeat “I’m somebody” over and over- just isn’t going to do it.
Trust me on this one, increasing your self esteem takes action. Heathy self esteem comes from having confidence in your abilities. How do you develop confidence? From being comfortable in who you are and your abilities. How do develop abilities? They same way you get good at anything else in life, by working at it until you get it right. You don’t suddenly wake up one day with perfect self esteem. You work on the things that will make you feel good about yourself until your low self esteem gradually becomes improved self esteem over time.
Let me share something with you that you will never hear from the warm and fuzzy crowd: You have to be willing to make changes. You can’t expect to keep living life like you’ve been living it, and have things change on their own. You have to MAKE them change.
If you want to raise your self esteem, you need to feel good about yourself and your abilities. And there’s no better place to start than how you feel about your physical appearance. Think about it. Do you ever see a professional athlete that’s trying to overcome no self esteem? If anything, these guys have too much self esteem!
